Read Across America Layout
I wanted to share a page that I made about our Read Across America Celebration at my school last week. I love this week for lots of reasons. I love Dr. Seuss books, I love to have a reason to dress silly, and I enjoy the kids having fun while they learn. The background on this page is very busy but I thought it was a little whimsical, just like Dr. Seuss books and sometimes silly is good. I am not usually real keen on cutting my photos into shapes, but such a fun page needed more than just some square photos. Since it was the 50th celebration of the book The Cat in the Hat, I thought balloons were just the right touch for the layout. The bird/eagle in the photo below is Ernie the Eagle which is our school's mascot in case you are wondering what is that all about??!

I used to be into the whole scrapbooking craze, but my time has become completely consumed by working full time and working on my doctorate. I have a friend who is a part of the digital scrapbooking experience and I know she loves it. Maybe after all of this is completed I will look into it. How do you like it compared to regular scrapbooking?
I love both actually but I have to admit that my work on digital scrapbooking looks better than my paper layouts. I am just not as good with the scissors as I am a computer mouse!! Also my husband bought a wonderful printer for me that prints out 12x12 inch pages so they fit into regular scrapbooks. So I guess I have to say that I do like digital the best.
I have also had the opportunity to participate in the "Read Accross America Week" within my school setting. I had the role of narrorator in reading the "Cat in the HAt" to my student participants. As the shool AP I was to choose students from the audience that would best take the role of each of the different charecters from the book who were expected to improvise the part as it was displayed on the screen. It truly is a great opportunity to get students engaged in the attitude toward a love of reading!
